Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy affirmed the central government’s unwavering support for persons with disabilities during the 25th-anniversary celebrations of the Dwarf Association held at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad yesterday. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, he highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, reservations for the specially abled were increased from 3 per cent to 4 per cent. He noted that Prime Minister Modi restored their dignity by introducing the term “Divyangjan” and pledged to continue resolving their grievances. A significant highlight of the event was the felicitation of Tirupatamma, a dwarf woman who achieved a remarkable victory as an independent candidate for the position of Sarpanch in Chinna Pendyala village, Jangaon district, during the recent local body elections.
