Functioning of IMD & Earth Sciences reviewed  in wake of heavy rains

 
Union Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh today reviewed the functioning of the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the India Meteorological Department in the backdrop of heavy rains. Chairing a high-level periodic review meeting of all the Science Secretaries in New Delhi today, Dr Singh stressed on the need for stronger early warning systems and real time weather updates for public safety. He also took stock of preparations for the Indian International Science Festival, directing departments to handhold and nurture startups, and ensure their participation in national science festivals. Dr. Singh gave detailed inputs on the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave, which will bring together global experts, Nobel laureates, young leaders, and innovators, and showcase cutting edge research towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
Recalling the Prime Minister’s call for the Bio-E3 Policy, focusing on bio-economy, employment and environment, Mr. Singh urged all departments to step up efforts in biotechnology and other sunrise sectors.
