Fourteen migrants drowned on Türkiye’s Mediterranean coast today after a boat carrying them collided with a coast guard vessel during a pursuit.
According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, the incident occurred off the coast of Demre in Antalya province,when a boat transporting Afghan migrants attempted to escape from coast guard boats.
Seven people were rescued from the sea by coast guard teams and received immediate medical treatment, while fourteen others were detained after reaching the shore. Search and rescue operations were still underway to locate any remaining individuals who may be missing.
