Four-day Khelo India Winter Games kicks off at Gulmarg in J&K 

In Jammu and Kashmir, the four-day Khelo India Winter Games kicked off today at the world-famous tourist destination Gulmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Gulmarg is one of the premier winter sports destinations in the country that will witness the participation of around one thousand athletes and officials from various states and Union Territories in different disciplines. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the sixth edition of Khelo India Winter Games at Gulmarg. Speaking on the occasion, he said the Khelo India Winter Games at Gulmarg have evolved from a simple sporting event into a true national festival. 
 
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said Khelo India Winter Games revive the sporting spirit’s ideals of peace, equality and friendship. He said in our vibrant and diverse nation of countless languages, cultures, and traditions, the Winter Games at Gulmarg are serving as a universal language and shared heritage.  
 
 
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed that it is not merely the government’s intention but its consistent and sustained effort to develop Gulmarg into an international ski destination. He said this vision will create opportunities and benefit all sectors associated with sports and tourism in the region.
 
 
J&K Minister for Youth Services & Sports Satish Sharma, Secretary of J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, senior officials, representatives of Sports Authority of India and various sports organisations, prominent sports personalities and sports enthusiasts in large numbers attended the inaugural ceremony.
