Former Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has paid 1 million Sri Lankan rupees in compensation ordered by Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court. The court had ordered the compensation following the annulment of the presidential pardon granted to Jude Shramantha Jayamaha, who was convicted in the Royal Park murder.

The former president appeared before the Supreme Court yesterday for a hearing related to the Fundamental Rights petition. During the session, Mr Sirisena’s legal team informed the court that the compensation had been paid.

Former President Sirisena was present in court as the judges reviewed the case. After considering the details, the court decided to release Sirisena from the case.
