Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri says India and Seychelles have signed 7 MoUs across various sectors

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri today said India sees its relationship with Seychelles as a substantial developmental partnership covering capacity building, blue economy initiatives, healthcare and maritime security. He highlighted that India has contributed to the development of Seychelles through various projects. Briefing the media in New Delhi, the Foreign Secretary underlined the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of a Special Economic Package of 175 million dollars to Seychelles that will support developmental projects in the key areas of the country. He said that India will give 10 ambulances to Seychelles, strengthening public healthcare in the country.

Mr Misri noted that the visit of the President of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Hermini,e underscores the joint vision for sustainability, economic growth, and security through enhanced linkages, outlining a future axis for cooperation between the two countries. He added that the visit aims to address common challenges in this region related to piracy, maritime terrorism, drug trafficking and also human trafficking and weapons trafficking. Emphasising the signed seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between both countries, Mr Misri said that the MoUs will provide benefits like deepening the collaboration in scientific research. He added that it will also focus on ocean observation and climate adaptation. He said that Seychelles has recognized Indian pharmacopoeia through another MoU, which will provide affordable and quality medicines for the people of Seychelles.
