Due to the swelling of major rivers in Bihar, including the Ganga, Gandak, Sone, Kosi, Mahananda, and Bagmati, over 19 lakh people in 10 districts of the state have been affected by floods.
Bhagalpur, Munger, Begusarai, Vaishali, Bhojpur, Khagaria, and Patna districts are among the worst-affected districts due to floods.
Continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of most rivers in the state has caused water levels to rise above and most of them are flowing above the danger mark.
A large number of displaced people have been forced to take shelter in tents, high places and on highways.
In Bhagalpur alone, more than 4.5 lakh people have been affected by floods. Rising water levels in the Ganga have submerged many parts of Bhagalpur city.
Floodwaters have spread into major localities, including Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University campus, the Engineering College premises, and prominent places of the city. Severe waterlogging has disrupted normal life in these areas.
In Begusarai district, more than 3.5 lakh people have been affected due to the Ganga being in spate. In Patna district, around 1.5 lakh people have been affected by flooding caused by the rising water levels of the Ganga and its tributaries.
In Munger district, low-lying areas of Sadar block and several villages along the banks of the Ganga have been hit by floods.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain for tomorrow as well. Continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours has severely disrupted life in several parts of the state, including Patna, where large areas of the city are experiencing heavy waterlogging.
