Flood Situation Improves In Assam; IMD Predicts Likelihood Of Moderate Rain At Isolated Places

In Assam’s flood situation showed further improvement today. Over 2 lakh 50 thousand people are still reeling under the deluge in 11 districts at around 740 villages. Three person lost their life in Kamrup district today due to the flood.

 

The State Government has engaged SDRF teams for rescue operations. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, over 25 thousand people are in the 130 relief camps. No rivers are flowing above danger levels at any places in the State.

 

In light of the improving flood situation in Kamrup district, ferry services resumed today over the Brahmaputra between Guwahati and North Guwahati.

 

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has informed that moderate rain is very likely to occur at isolated places of Chirang, Baksa, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, and Barak Valley districts of Cachar, Sri bhumi and Hailakandi.

 

The current first wave of floods and landslides have so far claimed 26 lives.
