Flash flood-like conditions prevail in several areas of Bihar

In Bihar, due to an unexpected rise in the water levels of the Falgu, Lokayeen, Muhane, and other seasonal rivers, flash flood-like conditions are prevailing in several areas of Nalanda, Jehanabad, and Gaya districts.

The situation occurred after a large quantity of water was released late at night from Jharkhand into the Falgu River. In view of this, the Water Resources Department has issued high alert.

Large-scale damage has been reported to houses in Nalanda, Jehanabad, and Gaya, while standing crops over large areas of farmland have also been destroyed.

Reports indicate that embankments have been damaged at nine locations.

The swelling of the Lokayeen river passing through Nalanda district has worsened the flood situation.

In Ekangarsarai and Hilsa blocks of Nalanda, floodwaters have spread into nearly 12 villages, forcing people to take shelter on rooftops and higher ground nearby.

On the Ekangarsarai-Jehanabad main road, at Milkipur village in Jehanabad district, flood water has overtopped the road, disrupting vehicular movement.

As a result, direct connectivity between Nalanda and Jehanabad has been cut off. Floodwaters have also submerged the Ekangarsarai-Masaudi road, halting traffic there as well.

Several areas of Hulasganj and Ghosi blocks in Jehanabad district are affected by the flash floods. In Gaya district, floodwaters from the Falgu, Muhane, and other seasonal rivers have spread into many villages of Bodhgaya.

The district administration has been continuously appealing to people to remain alert. Gaya District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar visited the affected areas of Bodhgaya and directed officials to take necessary action.
