Five people were killed and 44 others injured after a bus overturned in the Salang area of Baghlan province, Afghanistan, on Saturday.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) spokesperson said, the incident took place in the Shawal area, north of Salang in the wee hours. The injured were taken to the Khanjan district health centre for treatment.

Authorities have blamed the accidents largely on reckless driving, pointing to the serious hazards created by overcrowded and poorly maintained roads in Afghanistan.
