In Mizoram’s north-western Mamit district, five candidates are in the fray for the upcoming bye-election to Dampa assembly constituency bordering Bangladesh as the last date of filing nomination ends at 3pm on Tuesday, state election officials said.

The bye-poll is necessitated by the demise of the sitting legislator of the seat Lalrintluanga Sailo of the MNF on July 21. An electorate of 20,790 will decide the fates of 5 nominees on November 11.

State chief electoral officer (CEO) Dr. Lalrozama today said preparations for the Dampa bye-election are being undertaken smoothly sans violation of election model code of conduct.
