Fit India Initiative: Cycle Rally Held in Puducherry to Mark ‘Sundays on Cycles’ First Anniversary

Under the ‘Fit India’ initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the first anniversary of the ‘Sundays on Cycles’ campaign was observed today in Puducherry. A cycle rally of youths and students, led by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, was flagged off by Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.
 
The rally, which began at the Gandhi statue on Beach Road, passed through major streets of the city, creating public awareness on the benefits of adopting cycling as a regular habit. Puducherry Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam, Home Minister A. Namassivayam, Chief Secretary Dr Sharat Chauhan, and Khel Ratna awardees P. R. Rajesh and Sharath Kamal were among those who participated in the event. On the occasion, the top three participants who covered the maximum cycling distance and earned the highest points through the Fit India App were honoured with bicycles.
