On the first day of the notification of elections in Tamil Nadu, several politicians, including the leaders of the parties, filed their nominations today. Leader of the VCK Thol Thirumavalavan, a sitting MP, will be contesting in Kattumannarkoil. VCK has been allotted eight seats in SDA. BJP is yet to announce the names of the candidates.
As part of electioneering, roadshows were also conducted after filing nominations. All the parties have turned to the roads to meet the voters and to give them assurances. Actor-politician Vijay’s roadshow at Villivakkam in Chennai had to be cancelled since traffic came to a standstill and he had to return to his home.
In another development, the Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik released instructions on seeking permission through Suvidha with complete and correct information, including the dates, venues and timings of the events and submitting the same to the returning officer concerned at least 48 hours before the event, along with details of the expenditure plan in Annexure DI.
