The first batch of beneficiaries under the “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Yatra Scheme” of the Puducherry Government departed from the Union Territory last night to visit places associated with the life and legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The yatra was flagged off at the Puducherry Railway Station by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan. Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor urged the beneficiaries to share their feedback after completing the visit so that the scheme could be further strengthened and improved.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam, MLA Anibal Kennedy, and Secretary to the Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department, Dr. Muthamma, were also present at the flag-off ceremony.
The Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department of the Puducherry Government, which is implementing the scheme, is spending ₹40,000 per beneficiary for undertaking the yatra.
