Renewed fighting erupted along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border after a temporary ceasefire expired, killing at least two civilians and injuring several others in eastern Afghanistan.
Afghanistan’s Kunar province spokesperson Zia-ur-Rahman Spinghar said Pakistani forces fired dozens of artillery shells into the Narai and Sarkano districts, killing two civilians and wounding eight. Afghan border forces returned fire, claiming to have destroyed three Pakistani military posts and killing one person. There was no immediate comment from Pakistan’s military.
The clashes resumed a week after both sides had agreed to a week-long halt of hostilities ahead of Eid brokered by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar.
