The Sheikh Zayed Festival, now in its fifth edition, is underway at the Al Wathba grounds, Abu Dhabi, attracting thousands of visitors since its official opening on 1 November 2025. Running until 22 March 2026, the event operates under the theme “Hayyakum” (Welcome) and serves as a platform to honour the legacy of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Established in 2021, the festival has grown into one of the region’s largest cultural and entertainment gatherings. Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the festival features more than 4,000 events, 750 major performances, and participation from 22 countries.
Central to the festival is the Heritage Village, which recreates traditional Emirati life across four distinct zones: mountain, agricultural, marine, and desert. Visitors observe live demonstrations of falconry, Al Sadu weaving, and dhow sailing, alongside displays of pearl-diving techniques and Bedouin crafts. Competitions such as the Zayed Grand Camel Race and the Falconry Championship highlight the enduring role of these practices in Emirati identity. The Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Pavilion further emphasises sustainable farming methods rooted in local tradition.
The international pavilions enrich the cultural exchange. The India Pavilion presents Kathak dance performances, henna artistry, and exhibits of textiles, spices, and Ayurveda, underscoring the strong bilateral ties between the UAE and India. Evening programmes include the Emirates Fountain’s synchronised water and laser displays, as well as drone shows featuring up to 6,000 drones forming national symbols and heritage motifs. Fireworks conclude each night’s schedule. The festival aligns with the UAE’s broader objectives of cultural preservation and tourism development, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a global destination for heritage and innovation.
