EU chief, Russia and Thailand receive invitation to join Gaza ‘Board of Peace’

The European Commission’s President, Russia and Thailand have also received the invitation to join the Gaza Board of Peace. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov and the Thai Foreign Ministry have confirmed the invitation. The European Commission confirmed that President of the Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen received an invitation and would be speaking to other EU leaders about Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich today dismissed the Board of Peace as a raw deal for Israel and called for its dissolution. Last Saturday, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the formation of the committee was not coordinated with the Israeli government and is contrary to its policy. The US is expected to announce its official list of members in the coming days, likely during the World Economic Forum meeting at Davos in Switzerland.

Earlier, the US administration had circulated a draft charter to around 60 countries, calling for members to contribute one billion dollars if they want their membership to last more than three years. US President Donald Trump has announced the members of a new Board of Peace to lead the second phase of his 20‑Point Peace Plan aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.
