Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal today said that empowering women in maritime is not just a matter of equity but a strategic imperative to drive innovation, resilience, and growth in the sector. He was speaking at the inauguration of the International Day for Women in Maritime celebrations in Mumbai today.

Held under the theme “Women in Maritime: Leading Transformation and Sustainability”, the event aims to celebrate achievements, address challenges, and inspire greater participation of women across all areas of the maritime domain.

The event brought together leaders, professionals, and changemakers from across the maritime sector. The event saw active participation from dignitaries, senior government officials, maritime professionals, and representatives from shipping companies, port authorities, academic institutions, and international organisations.
