Emergency undermined nation’s morale, taught value of freedom: EAM Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, today said that the emergency imposed in 1975 was aimed at breaking the morale of the country and the society. Addressing a function in New Delhi to mark 50 Years of Emergency, he said one lesson that the Emergency taught people is never to take freedom for granted. The Minister added that when a family is considered bigger than the nation, situations like the Emergency arise. Dr Jaishankar also said, five constitutional amendments were made and 48 ordinances were passed during the two years of the emergency period.
