Election Commission to celebrate 16th National Voters’ Day today

The 15th National Voters’ Day will be celebrated across the country today. The theme this year is My India, My Vote highlighting the central role of citizens in India’s democracy. Akashvani correspondent reports, this day is observed every year to commemorate the foundation of the Election Commission of India – ECI, which was established on 25th January 1950, a day before Republic Day.

The day aims to underline the importance of voters, raise electoral awareness, and encourage active participation in the democratic process.

On this occasion, President Droupadi Murmu will grace the national function in New Delhi today as the Chief Guest. Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Chief Election Commissioner, and Election Commissioners will also be present at the event.

Additionally, ECI is organizing several activities at national and state level to promote voter awareness, especially among first-time voters.

These activities include National Electoral Awards event, which will recognize the Best Election Districts and various Launches in the presence of the President.

Meanwhile, other activities at educational institutes are also being encouraged to to hold debates, discussions, and competitions to inspire young people to become responsible voters.

The celebrations emphasize that every vote counts and every citizen has a vital role in India’s democratic journey. With growing voter participation, increasing women enrolment, and expanding infrastructure, India’s democratic journey continues to inspire the world.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today extended his greetings to all the citizens on National Voters Day. In a social media post, Mr Shah said that this day reminds that Indian constitution has given every voter equal power and that exercising the right vote responsibly can guide the nation in the right direction.

He also emphasized that it is moral responsibility of every citizen to safeguard the voting system and ensure that no external factor can pollute it.

Home Minister added that on this day, every citizen should recommit themselves to the pledge of aligning the power of their votes towards building a developed and powerful India.
