A three-member team from the Election Commission of India reached Dharmanagar of North Tripura district and held a meeting this morning with senior officials of the district administration and police. Officials from the State Election Department were also present in the meeting. The team reviewed the necessary arrangements being made for the by-election in the constituency. They enquired about the facilities being provided at each polling station to ensure the convenience of voters, including Divyangajan.
The Election Commission’s team included Principal Secretary N.T. Bhutia, Secretary Santosh Kumar Dubey, and Section Officer Vijay Gupta. The officials may also hold meetings with representatives of various political parties during their visit.
The team arrived at Agartala yesterday to review the preparations for the upcoming by-election in the Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency. The date of polling is yet to be announced by the Commission.
The assembly seat was vacant since the demise of Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Biswabandhu Sen on December 26 last year.
It is worth noting that there are a total of 46143 voters in the Dharmanagar assembly constituency. Out of these, 22380 are male voters and 23763 are female. Out of 55 polling stations, 32 are in urban and 23 are in rural areas.
