The Election Commission of India today published the draft electoral rolls in Chhattisgarh under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Talking to Akashvani News, the State’s Chief Electoral Officer, Yashwant Kumar, said that under the SIR exercise, enumeration forms were received from one crore eighty-four lakh ninety-five thousand nine hundred and twenty voters across the state.
He said that six lakh forty-two thousand two hundred and thirty-four voters were found to be deceased. Nineteen lakh thirteen thousand five hundred and forty voters were found to be shifted or absent, while the names of one lakh seventy-nine thousand forty-three voters were found registered at more than one place. Under the previous electoral roll, Chhattisgarh had a total of two crore twelve lakh thirty thousand seven hundred and thirty-seven voters.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that claims and objections related to the draft electoral rolls will be accepted from today till the twenty-second of January. Hearings and verification will be conducted till the fourteenth of January. The final publication of the electoral rolls will be made on the twenty-first of February.
Mr Kumar has appealed to the people of the state to check their names in the draft electoral rolls. In case of any discrepancy, they can file claims or objections within the stipulated time. He also assured that those whose names are not found in the electoral rolls need not panic, as the process of adding names to the voters’ list will continue in the future as well.
