Election Commission orders detailed law and order reports in West Bengal

In view of the upcoming assembly election in West Bengal, in an unprecedented decision, the Election Commission has directed all the police stations in the state to submit a detailed report on the law and order situation in their respective areas by next Thursday. The report must include information on the stockpile of weapons, identified antisocial elements, and crime-related data. According to the Commission’s directive, the officer-in-charge of each police station must ensure that their area remains crime-free. If not, action will be taken against them. The state’s Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, has stated that the Commission will provide all necessary assistance, including paramilitary forces, to keep police station areas free of crime.

Furthermore, if incidents of unrest occur during voting in any area, strict action will be taken against the officer responsible for that police station. The Commission has also made it clear that any misuse of central forces will not be tolerated. They must act strictly according to the law. In case of any disturbance at polling booths, it will be the responsibility of the central forces to handle the situation. If proven guilty of negligence, they too will face disciplinary action.
