Election campaigning has intensified in Puducherry ahead of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly Elections 2026, with prominent leaders stepping up outreach across constituencies. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Home Minister A. Namassivayam, Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam, DMK leader and Leader of Opposition R. Siva, and Congress MP and PCC President V. Vaithilingam are actively coordinating campaigns in various constituencies.
Candidates have begun their campaigns across Puducherry. On the campaign trail, Home Minister A. Namassivayam carried out electioneering in Katterikuppam under the Mannadipet constituency, while Opposition leader R. Siva launched his campaign from Muthupillaipalayam in the Villianur constituency. Puducherry Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam, contesting from Manavely, also campaigned in Chinna Veerampattinam, seeking support from voters.
Meanwhile, the Election Department is intensifying voter awareness efforts with a focus on achieving 100% polling. Activities such as awareness classes, flash mobs and innovative programmes like star-gazing events are being organised in connection. The Excise Department has ordered the closure of all liquor shops in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam on April 7, 8 and 9, as well as on May 4, the counting day. The District Election Officer has also issued guidelines for the 48-hour silence period before polling. Authorities have urged all political parties and voters to strictly adhere to election guidelines and ensure free and fair polling.
