Election campaigning for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections is at its peak. Today, star campaigners from both the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan campaigned across different regions of the state. The campaigning for the first phase will conclude tomorrow evening.
From the NDA side, BJP’s star campaigner and Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed election rallies in Saharsa and Katihar, launching a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. Addressing a rally in Katihar, the Prime Minister alleged that the Mahagathbandhan is an alliance of incompatible parties. Mr. Modi said that the Congress will never allow Tejaswi Yadav to become Chief Minister. He also said that the RJD’s past is tainted with corruption, which is why the posters of the party no longer feature its old leaders.
Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing rallies in Sheohar and Sitamarhi in support of NDA candidates, said that the NDA government at Centre is serious about resolving Bihar’s flood problem. For this reason, the Kosi-Mechi project has been started, which will provide irrigation facilities to farmers.
BJP’s star campaigner Yogi Adityanath also targeted the RJD and Congress during his various rallies, raising issues related to crime and law and order.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, addressing a rally in Rajapakar in Vaishali district, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should tell the people how many jobs were actually provided during their respective 11-year and 20-year tenures.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, addressing a rally in Saharsa, accused the NDA government of attempting to dismantle the Constitution.
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejaswi Prasad Yadav, addressing a rally in Fatuha in Patna, announced that if the Mahagathbandhan forms the government, one member of every family in the state will be given a government job.
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav also campaigned in support of the Mahagathbandhan, while RJD President Lalu Prasad held a roadshow in Patna in support of his party’s candidates.
