In Sri Lanka, people are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today with prayers, charity, and community gatherings. Since early morning, large congregations have gathered at mosques and open grounds nationwide, with one of the main assemblies held at Galle Face Green in Colombo, as families and friends exchanged greetings and embraced the festive spirit.
Traditional practices such as visiting the graves of loved ones and offering prayers in their memory were observed, while homes were filled with the aroma of festive meals. Acts of charity and sharing highlighted the values of compassion and generosity central to Eid, which symbolise spiritual renewal, gratitude, and unity.
In his message on the occasion, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasised compassion, equality, and coexistence, urging citizens to set aside differences and unite in addressing national challenges, while extending warm wishes for a peaceful and harmonious celebration.
