Vice President C P Radhakrishnan today said that education should be used to reduce inequalities, empower marginalised communities and ensure that development reaches every corner of the country. Speaking at the 9th convocation ceremony of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi today, he said education not only forms character but also strengthens the mind and expands intelligence. Mr Radhakrishnan urged the students to work for the country’s economic, social and scientific prosperity.
Vice President noted that education and proper training will empower the country’s youth to fulfill the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He said modern and traditional values should grow together and added that India’s history has always inspired the pursuit of knowledge. He also called for developing a habit of cooperation so that administrative decisions can be implemented smoothly. The Vice President commended JNU for establishing new study centers in Indian languages.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that former students of Jawaharlal Nehru University have made significant contributions to nation-building. Emphasising the institution’s rich legacy, Mr Pradhan said JNU has remained a leading centre of learning across disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, and languages, as well as science and technology. He noted that JNU has always been ahead of its time and added that the university had imbibed several principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 well before its formal implementation.
