The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court seeking a CBI probe against the raid conducted by Jharkhand Police at its Ranchi zonal office today. The matter is scheduled to be heard tomorrow. Police had reached the ED office following an FIR lodged at the Airport Police Station by a PHED employee in connection with a money laundering case.

Meanwhile, the BJP termed the police presence at the ED office as a direct attack on the independence of a central investigating agency. Speaking to reporters, Union Minister of State for Defence and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth said that the prompt police action on the complaint of an accused involved in a multi-crore scam, who had already spent 18 months in jail, weakens the constitutional framework. Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi alleged that the state government is trying to shield the accused.
