The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced that all employed voters in Bihar, including daily and casual workers, will be entitled to a paid holiday on polling days during the upcoming assembly elections in the state. It added that employed voters in eight assembly constituencies across various states, where bypolls are being held on November 11, are also entitled to a paid holiday. The ECI informed that electors who are working outside the constituency but registered as voters going to the polls shall also be entitled to get the benefit of a paid holiday. The Commission said that this move is aimed at increasing voter turnout, as it removes the potential barrier of work commitments on election day, allowing all citizens to participate in the upcoming elections.
