The Election Commission has said today that claims, objections, and corrections to Bihar’s draft electoral roll can be filed after today but will only be considered after the electoral roll was finalised. This submission was made by the Commission before the Supreme Court during a hearing on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi took note of the Election Commission’s submission, which clarified that claims and objections may be filed up to the last date for filing nomination forms in each assembly constituency. However, the Bench did not issue any direction to extend the deadline for submitting such claims beyond today. The Supreme Court also asked the Chairman of the Bihar State Legal Services Authority to depute para-legal volunteers to assist voters and political parties in submitting online claims, objections, or corrections to the electoral roll being prepared as part of the SIR.
