The Election Commission is confident that the SIR process in West Bengal will be concluded by the scheduled deadline of February 7. Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said that hearings for over 1.5 crore voters are now in their final stage. He said that to ensure the flawless final voter list strict monitoring is being enforced at every level. Data uploaded from hearings is being verified by micro-observers, while special observers are conducting “super-checks” of all documents, information, and decisions submitted online. Micro-observers previously stationed at hearing centers have now been reassigned to assist roll observers in maintaining the voter list. Meanwhile, Mr Agarwal said that more than 744,000 voters have already applied for inclusion in the rolls.
