The Election Commission today conducted an online review and training session for District Election Officers, Superintendents of Police, SSPs and Commissioners of Police of Assam, which is set to go to polls on 9th of April. During the session, senior officials of the Commission reviewed the preparedness of the district administration and law and order machinery for the upcoming Assembly elections. The review covered key aspects, including polling station arrangements, assured minimum facilities, Electronic Voting Machine- EVM management, logistics, training of election staff, law and order, seizures, and voter awareness activities.
The Commission emphasised that Presiding Officers must provide signed copies of Form 17C, detailing the account of votes recorded, to polling agents at the close of polls. They have also been directed to upload voter turnout data on the ECINET App at two-hour intervals and at the end of polling.
Further, ECI stated that District Election Officers have been instructed to ensure distribution of Voter Information Slips at least five days prior to polling and provide voter guides to every household. Braille-enabled voter slips will also be issued for visually impaired electors.
The Commission further directed that permissions sought by candidates and political parties through the Suvidha module of ECINET be processed within 24 hours in a fair and first-come-first-served manner. Special emphasis was also laid on ensuring adequate safety and rescue arrangements in view of the large number of riverine polling stations in the state.
