EAM S Jaishankar’s remarks during session on G20 objectives for 2025 Johannesburg in South Africa

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar today underlined that in order to retain its leadership, the G20 must be accurately reflective of global challenges in their entirety. He said this during his remarks at the G20 FMM session on G20 objectives for 2025 Johannesburg in South Africa. Dr. Jaishankar stated that the challenges include food, energy, and health security; establishing digital public infrastructure; and promoting women-led development. He stressed that the G20 must always place the imperatives of collaboration higher than the compulsions of competition.

On international disaster response, Dr. Jaishankar said India supports strong frameworks for preparedness, emergency response, recovery, and reconstruction. India initiated the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) in 2019. The External Affairs Minister added that today, CDRI has 42 nations and 7 organisations as its members. He said India supports comprehensive frameworks that balance development needs with fiscal sustainability. He highlighted that the initiative of the International Solar Alliance underlines India’s commitment to global collaboration on climate action.
