External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar today said India values Thailand as a long-time friend apart from being an important maritime neighbour. In his opening remarks at meeting with his Thailand counterpart Sihasak Phuangketkeow in New Delhi, Dr Jaishankar said India and Thailand have historically shared close and friendly ties. He highlighted that India’s ‘Act East’ Policy has found a match in Thailand’s Act West Policy.
The External Affairs Minister expressed condolences on the passing away of Queen Mother of Thailand, Queen Sirikit. He opined that a regular exchange of views on pressing issues is very useful given the rapidly evolving geo-political and geo-economic environment which impacts both India and Thailand.
India-Thailand ties were elevated to a Strategic Partnership during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangkok in April this year for the BIMSTEC Summit and for his Official Visit. Several agreements including in the fields of handloom and handicrafts, digital technologies, MSMEs, and maritime heritage were signed on that occasion.
