A drone strike hit the vicinity of Dubai International Airport early Monday morning, triggering a large fire near fuel storage facilities and forcing the temporary suspension of flight operations. The Dubai Media Office confirmed the strike and said emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Officials say the fire was brought under control within a few hours and has been contained without spreading to other critical infrastructure. According to Dubai Civil Defence, no injuries have been reported so far. However, the incident forced the suspension of flights at the airport, one of the busiest aviation hubs in the world, with incoming aircraft diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport and other regional airports. Emirates has advised passengers not to travel to the airport until further notice as authorities assess the situation.
The strike comes amid sharply rising tensions across West Asia following the conflict that began on February 28th between the United States, Israel and Iran. Regional infrastructure has been under heightened threat in recent weeks, with governments placing security forces on high alert to counter missile and drone attacks targeting strategic facilities.
Authorities in Dubai have also implemented temporary traffic closures around the airport to allow emergency services access to the area. Roads, including the Airport Tunnel and Al Garhoud Bridge towards Casablanca Street, were closed to facilitate response operations.
