The benchmark domestic equity indices today ended with gains of more than 0.8 percent, buoyed by positive global cues and broad-based buying across most sectors. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, surged 700 points to close at 82,756. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50, rose 200 points to settle at 25,245.
The broader market indices at the BSE also closed in positive territory. The Mid-Cap index advanced over 0.6 per cent and Small-Cap index gained almost 1.6 per cent.
In the Sensex pack, 27 out of 30 companies edged up. Among the top gainers, Titan jumped 3.6 per cent, Infosys as well as Mahindra and Mahindra climbed over 2.1 per cent each, and Bharti Airtel advanced almost 1.7 per cent. In the top laggards, Bharat Electronics shed three per cent, Kotak Bank fell over 1.1 per cent, and Axis Bank dipped over 0.6 per cent.
In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 19 out of 21 sectors ended with gains. Among the top gainers, Tech, Focused IT and IT, soared almost 1.7 per cent each, Telecommunication gained more than 1.4 per cent, and Consumer Discretionary along with Consumer Durables added over 1.2 per cent each. The only two laggards were, Capital Goods which dipped over half per cent, and Oil and Gas closed nearly flat.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,821 companies advanced, shares of 1,207 companies declined, while shares of 134 companies remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 51 companies hit their 52-week high, while 23 hit their 52-week low.
