BSE & NSE Open for Trading on Union Budget Day; Markets See Positive Start

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) are open for trading today, on account of the presentation of the Union Budget 2025-26 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha. This is only the third instance when the stock market has remained open on a Saturday for the budget.

 

The domestic benchmark indices opened on a positive note today. The Sensex gained 117 points, or 0.15 percent, to open at 77,618, and the Nifty50 rose 37 points, or 0.16 percent, to start at 23,546. Meanwhile, both indices were trading higher in early trade, led by the Power, Utilities, Industrials, and Realty sectors. The 30-share BSE Sensex added 240 points, or 0.31 percent, to reach 77,740, and the NSE Nifty50 increased by 66 points, or 0.28 percent, to 23,574 when reports last came in. The broader market at the Bombay Stock Exchange was also trading with gains.

 

The Mid-Cap index rose over 0.6 percent, and the Small-Cap index increased by over 0.8 percent a short while ago. While the commodity derivatives market will extend its trading until 5 p.m. In addition to equity and commodity derivatives trading, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India will also conduct a live trading session today.
