In Manipur, the DGAR (Director General of Assam Rifles) Men and Women Polo Championship 2025 concluded today with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh gracing the closing ceremony held at Mapal Kangjeibung in Imphal. The Assam Rifles Mahila Polo Team secured the championship title in the women’s category, while the Manipur Police Sports Club Team B lifted the men’s championship title.
The championship organised by Assam Rifles commenced on the 20th of last month, in which 27 men and 5 women polo teams, including teams from Assam Rifles, competed against each other for the titles. The closing ceremony was also attended by State CAF & PD Minister L. Sushindro, Social Welfare Minister H. Dingo, MLAs, Director General of Assam Rifles Lt. General Vikas Lakhera, and other senior officials of Assam Rifles.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the State Government has taken up various schemes to protect and safeguard the Manipuri pony. He said the polo tournament had been started to preserve and promote the polo, which is an indigenous game of Manipur.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister also honoured veteran polo players for their contribution to the field of polo.
