DFPD Report Highlights Reforms in Procurement, Storage, and Grievance Redressal

Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) has presented a comprehensive nationwide field-level assessment report on Public Distribution operations to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. The assessment was carried out across 112 Aspirational Districts and aims to enhance key aspects of the Public Distribution System, including procurement, storage, and grievance redressal. According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the review covered 277 Fair Price Shops, along with visits to depots, procurement centres, and interactions with beneficiaries and grievance petitioners.

The findings were further supported by consultations with district administrations and officials to identify systemic improvements. The Ministry stated that the Department will now focus on strengthening service delivery, launching local awareness campaigns, and upgrading infrastructure and storage facilities in these districts. For grievance redressal, the Department will collaborate closely with state governments and collect beneficiary feedback using AI-based systems to ensure timely and effective action.
