DEPwD organises Inclusive India Summit on Global Accessibility Awareness Day

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) today organised the ‘Inclusive India Summit’ in New Delhi to mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Speaking at the event, Secretary of the Department, Rajesh Aggarwal, emphasised the importance of access to language, life, learning, and livelihood for persons with disabilities. He highlighted the government’s efforts to promote sign language learning and urged the corporate sector to create a disability-friendly environment. Mr. Aggarwal encouraged persons with disabilities to demand their rights and expressed confidence that 90 per cent of them have the potential to become productive members of society. The summit is aimed at promoting inclusive development and digital accessibility for persons with disabilities across the country.

Observed annually on the third Thursday of May, Global Accessibility Awareness Day is dedicated to raising awareness around digital access and inclusion. The Inclusive India Summit aligns with this global mission, highlighting India’s commitment to making technology and public services more inclusive for all.
