Department of Posts revises Inland Speed Post (Document) Tariff, introduces new features

The Department of Posts has revised the Inland Speed Post (Document) Tariff and introduced new features aimed at enhancing reliability, security, and customer convenience. The Ministry of Communications has said that the revised tariff will be effective from 1st October. In local areas for speed post, the new tariff will be 19 rupees for items weighing up to 50 grams. Beyond 50 grams to 250 grams, the rate will be 24 rupees, and the tariff will be 28 rupees for items weighing above 250 to 500 grams. Besides, items weighing up to 50 grams for distances up to 200 to above 2000 kilometres will attract a tariff of 47 rupees.

 

Meanwhile, minimum charges for items weighing more than 50 grams to 250 grams for 200 kilometres will be 59 rupees and for more than 2000 kilometres, this will attract 77 rupees. The tariff for speed post has also been revised in the range of 70 to 93 rupees, depending on the distance. The Ministry added that GST will also be applicable to speed post items. It said, to enhance the accessibility of Speed Post services for students, a 10 per cent discount on the Speed Post tariff has been introduced. Besides, a special discount of 5 per cent will also be provided to new bulk customers. The tariff of Inland Speed Post was last revised in October 2012.

 

The Ministry added that Registration is also available as a value-added service under speed post for both documents and parcels. A nominal charge of five rupees per Speed Post item, plus applicable GST, will be levied for the value-added service of Registration, wherein the item will be delivered exclusively to the addressee or a person duly authorised by the addressee. Ministry of Communications said that the new features introduced for Speed Post include OTP-based secure delivery, Online payment facility, SMS-based delivery notifications and real-time delivery updates.
