Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will pay homage to police martyrs on Police Commemoration Day at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on Tuesday. This day marks the sacrifice of ten valiant policemen, who were ambushed and killed by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on 21st October 1959. Since then, the day has been observed annually as Police Commemoration Day.
A joint parade of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Delhi Police will also be held on the occasion. The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, heads of CAPFs and Central Police Organisations (CPOs) and other dignitaries will pay tribute by laying wreaths at the memorial. In addition to paying homage, the Defence Minister will address the assembly, reflecting on the bravery and dedication of police personnel.
As part of the commemorative events, CAPFs and CPOs will organise various activities at the National Police Memorial from 22nd to 30th of this month. These include visits by family members of martyrs, police band displays, motorcycle rallies, Run for Martyrs, blood donation camps, essay and painting competitions for children, and screenings of video films highlighting the sacrifice, valour, and service of police personnel.
