Death Toll Rises to 11 After Landslides Hit Sri Lanka’s Badulla District

The death toll from a series of landslides and earthslips in Sri Lanka’s Badulla District has risen to 11. According to media reports, seven people remain missing after heavy rains triggered incidents at seven locations across the district. Rescue and relief teams are continuing search operations as unstable ground conditions persist following intense rainfall.

 

Authorities report that additional minor landslides have occurred in several parts of Badulla, raising concerns about further hazards. Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organisation has issued Level-3 (red) landslide evacuation warnings for vulnerable areas in the Badulla, Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts.
