Cyclone Montha Approaches Andhra Coast; Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Forecast

Cyclonic Storm Montha is located 480 km east of Chennai in the Bay of Bengal. The Joint bulletin released by the Indian Met department and the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has said that the cyclonic storm is likely to move north northwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow. It has been forecast that the storm is very likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipattnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada tomorrow night.
 
 
In the morning, Squally weather with gale wind speed gusting upto 55 to 65 kmph is likely to prevail over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts and during the landfall tomorrow evening howling winds will range from 90 to 100 kmph gusting upto 110 kmph.
 
 
Cyclone Montha will bring light to moderate rainfall in Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and also heavy to very rainfall at isolated places tomorrow. Severe rain warning at some places is likely to hit Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
 
 
Though this is the second spell of rains over Tamilnadu even as the NorthEast Monsoon began this month, the water levels in reservoirs all over the State has reached the maximum levels and surplus water has been released. Northern districts like Tiruvallur and Chennai are likely to receive heavy rainfall in some places tomorrow.
