The Weather Department has said that the Cyclonic Storm Ditwah over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts moved nearly northwards with the speed of 12 kmph during past 6 hours. Our Chennai correspondent reports that the cyclonic storm is very likely to move nearly northwards parallel to North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts during the next 24 hours.
As cyclonic storm DITWAH is running parallel to the Coast of Northern Tamilnadu, Port signal number five has been hoisted at Chennai, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Ennore, Kattupalli, Puducherry and Karaikal. Signal Number No 4 has been hoisted at Pamban and Thoothukudi. Red alert has been reduced to orange alert meaning heavy rains with light thunderstorms are likely in one or two places in Chennai.
