The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association 11th India region Conference in Bengaluru today has taken a resolution to make Legislative sessions transparent and accountable, unbound by disruptions. Addressing media persons after the conclusion of the Conference, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informed that the Conference resolved to implement best practices to ensure disruption free transaction of legislative business and earn public trust.

 

 

He further added that during the Conference, the Presiding officers discussed in detail about improving the standards of debates and discussions in the House. The Research and Reference units in the legislature will be improved, a database of all the proceedings and transactions will be digitised and made available on a single platform. Technology will also be used to disseminate information to the public on the policies and programmes discussed in the legislature.

 

 

The Parliamentary Committees will have access to these databases so that their reports are relevant and fact based. The Secretariat personnel will be trained in the drafting of the Bills and public participation will be encouraged. Speaker Om Birla hoped that one day, the Legislative house will function without pandemonium, display of placards, shouting of slogans and systematic disruptions.
