Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy today stressed that the country must go beyond incremental reforms to achieve the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He said this while chairing a high-level stakeholder consultation in New Delhi on Accelerating Domestic Coal Production in Light of Policy Reforms, with a focus on strengthening India’s energy security. Highlighting the guiding mantra of Reform, Perform, Transform and Inform, the Minister called for comprehensive changes across the coal value chain, including exploration, auctions, clearances, operations, financing and scientific mine closure. Emphasizing coal gasification and increased private sector participation, Mr Reddy called for coordinated efforts and sustained policy support to fast-track domestic coal production.
Addressing the event, Secretary of the Coal Ministry, Vikram Dev Dutt, said that policy-driven reforms have transformed the coal sector into a more transparent, competitive and efficient ecosystem. He noted that initiatives such as commercial coal mining, the Single Window Clearance System and digital reforms have improved ease of doing business and accelerated mine operationalisation.
