Continuous Rains Disrupt Normal Life in Himachal Pradesh

Normal life has been badly affected due to continuous rains in Himachal Pradesh during the last three days. The situation in three districts of the state, Chamba, Kangra and Kullu, is very bad, and people are facing a lot of difficulties. Due to landslides in the state, hundreds of roads are blocked for traffic and communication, and electricity and drinking water supply are also stalled at various places.

Natural disasters have caused extensive damage to private and government property in the state. Three districts, Chamba, Kangra and Kullu have been most affected by heavy rains during the last 72 hours. Chamba district is currently cut off from the rest of the country. Pathankot-Chamba National Highway is blocked due to floods and landslides. More than one hundred vehicles are stranded on this route, and around one thousand vehicles are also stranded on the Mani Mahesh Yatra route. The devotees stranded in the Mani Mahesh Yatra have been accommodated at safe places by the district administration. The government and administration are working on a war footing to restore road connectivity in the district. Today, some sick passengers stranded in Gaurikund have been brought to Chamba by helicopter.

Due to a lack of a communication network in the district, the exact number of stranded people is not available. However, for the convenience of people in Chamba, Kullu and Lahaul Spiti districts, the Himachal Pradesh License Service Area Telecom Department has activated the intra-circle roaming facility till  3rd September. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain at isolated places of Una, Hamirpur, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan districts during the next 24 hours.
