Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has said that India is a nation that put great emphasis on fraternity and equality after Independence. He made this remark while addressing the Dr. LM Singhvi lecture in New Delhi today. Mr Birla said that the Constitution of India is not merely a legal document but a moral tool for governance. He highlighted that human dignity forms the core of parliamentary democracy, reminding that every law and policy must protect the self respect and rights of the common people. He also emphasised that the framers of the Indian Constitution, led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, deeply embedded principles of humanity, equality, justice, socio-economic rights, and freedoms within the Constitution.
Speaking on the occassion, Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai said that human dignity is the soul of Indian Constituition. Justice Gavai highlighted that courts have consistently interpreted fundamental rights with dignity as the central pillars of constitutional values.
