The Indian National Congress in Puducherry has urged the Election Commission of India to align the polling date for the Union Territory with that of neighbouring Tamil Nadu. In a memorandum, the party demanded that elections to the Puducherry Assembly be held on April 23 along with Tamil Nadu, or alternatively, that Tamil Nadu’s polling be rescheduled to April 9. The party also requested that if polling is conducted on April 9 as currently scheduled, directions be issued to ensure paid leave for Puducherry residents working in Tamil Nadu, enabling them to exercise their franchise.
